It is needed whenever data is imported or syndicated to retailers, marketplaces and data pools.<\/p><h2>Types of mapping<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Attribute mapping:<\/strong> your attribute \u201cWidth (mm)\u201d is matched to the retailer&#8217;s \u201cwidth\u201d field.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Value mapping:<\/strong> \u201canthracite\u201d is translated into the standard value \u201cgrey\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Category mapping:<\/strong> your categories are mapped to the recipients&#8217; category trees.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unit mapping:<\/strong> conversion, for example from millimetres to centimetres.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Mapping in PIM<\/h2>\n<p>Good PIM systems store mappings for each recipient and apply them automatically. This keeps your data model stable, even when retailers change their requirements.
