Crystallize profile
Crystallize is a headless commerce platform with integrated PIM from Crystallize AS, based in Skien, Norway. The company was founded in 2017 by brothers Bård and Aleksander Farstad and incubated by New Normal Group that same year. It also has offices in Oslo and San Francisco, with most of the team working remotely. Crystallize combines product information management, content management and commerce features such as subscriptions in an API-first platform designed for development teams, agencies and their clients. According to the vendor, customers include Sandqvist, Plantasjen, Sweef, Kaffekapslen and Cappelen Damm.
Features at a glance
- Data model: freely configurable product types (“Shapes”) built from components such as text, rich text, images, numeric values, selection lists and product relationships; Shapes are versioned and reusable.
- Variants and markets: complex variant matrices and multilingual catalogues for multiple markets.
- APIs: delivery via GraphQL APIs (Discovery and Catalogue) with a global CDN; event-driven interfaces for tasks such as automated translations or price updates.
- Content and commerce: content and product data in one system, plus order management and subscription features.
- AI: an MCP server that enables AI agents to access catalogue data.
Strengths and limitations
Crystallize is a strong fit for companies pursuing a tailored headless approach that want to deliver product data, content and commerce features from a single source via modern APIs. Its flexible data model also accommodates unconventional product structures. Pricing is public: there is a free entry-level plan with usage-based billing, the “Atom” plan costs US$949 per month plus usage, and Enterprise terms are agreed individually. As a headless solution, Crystallize requires development resources for the frontend and integrations. Traditional PIM requirements such as supplier onboarding, print publishing or classification standards such as ETIM should be assessed in detail. The vendor does not list an office in the DACH region.
Who Crystallize is suited to
Crystallize is suited to brands and retailers with an in-house development team or agency partner looking to build headless commerce with integrated PIM, for example for D2C stores, subscription models or multilingual catalogues serving multiple markets.
