Bluestone PIM is a SaaS PIM platform from Tønsberg, Norway, founded in 2016. The company grew out of Norwegian e-commerce pioneer WebOn and has offices in several countries, including Utrecht and Stockholm. The vendor describes its product as the first MACH-certified PIM platform. MACH stands for Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native and Headless.

Bluestone PIM and MACH architecture

In a MACH architecture, the commerce stack consists of individual services that work together through interfaces. Bluestone PIM is one such service: it manages product data and makes it available to online stores, marketplaces and other systems via APIs. Multilingual support for local markets is built in, along with team collaboration features and digital asset management for images and documents.

Who Bluestone is suited to

MACH makes sense when a company deliberately builds its online store from several specialised components and has an in-house development team or an agency to support it. For companies looking for a ready-made, all-in-one solution, this approach requires more effort. Customers include Wilhelmsen Ships Service, Neumann and Modino.

Strengths and limitations

Bluestone has a strong focus on modular, API-based architecture and AI. An MCP server gives external AI agents controlled access to PIM data, and users can switch between different language models. Import support includes field mapping, pre-import validation rules and an AI agent that detects missing or unusual values. A dedicated application is available for the Digital Product Passport. Limitations: broad marketplace connectivity requires partners such as Productsup or WakeupData, which need additional licences. Workflows are configured through rules rather than a visual designer. And the architectural freedom requires a team with development expertise. Companies looking for a turnkey solution should carefully assess the implementation effort involved.
