Acquia PIM profile
Acquia PIM is the product information functionality within Acquia DAM, delivered through the Entries application. Based in Boston, Acquia was founded in 2007 by Drupal founder Dries Buytaert and Jay Batson and is best known as a provider of a Digital Experience Platform built around Drupal. In 2021, Acquia acquired DAM vendor Widen from Madison (Wisconsin), whose platform is now marketed as Acquia DAM. Entries originated in that product. The PIM is therefore closely tied to the DAM and is not a standalone master data system. Acquia cites PRADCO Outdoor Brands among its reference customers, using Acquia PIM to manage product content for e-commerce channels.
Features at a glance
- Product content: Product descriptions, feature lists and other marketing copy, together with the associated images, videos and documents, in a 360-degree view.
- Import: Import of technical specifications from upstream ERP, PLM or MDM systems.
- Data quality: Checks for missing information, assets and pending approvals, plus a change history for each product.
- Workflows: Automated notifications for copywriters, creatives and product managers throughout the content lifecycle.
- Output: Syndication to online stores, marketplaces, websites and print publishers, plus branded channel portals serving as digital product catalogues for retailers and sales teams.
Strengths and limitations
Acquia PIM is a strong fit for brands that already manage their image and media assets in Acquia DAM and want to maintain product copy and attributes alongside them, then syndicate this content to retailers or online stores. Another advantage is its close connection to the wider Acquia platform, including Drupal CMS and Customer Data Platform. Its roots, however, lie in DAM: if you need complex data models, extensive variant logic, classification standards such as ETIM or ECLASS, or a PIM as your product data system of record, you should assess its depth of functionality carefully. Acquia does not publish pricing. Acquia is active in the DACH region through partners and customers. You should clarify the scope of local support for the DAM and PIM product during the selection process.
Who Acquia PIM is suited to
Acquia PIM suits brand-led manufacturers, for example in consumer goods, sports and leisure, that use or are implementing Acquia DAM and want to distribute product content together with media assets to e-commerce channels and sales partners.
