Headless PIM / API-first

In brief: A headless PIM provides product data primarily via APIs rather than its own presentation layer. Online stores, apps and other systems retrieve the data directly. API-first means that every function is designed as an API first.

Key features

  • Comprehensive REST or GraphQL APIs for reading and writing data
  • Event notifications (webhooks) when data changes
  • Flexible integration with online stores, CMS and other services

MACH and composable commerce

Headless PIM is part of the MACH architecture: Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native and Headless. Instead of using a large suite, specialist systems are combined into a platform, an approach known as composable commerce. This offers flexibility but requires more integration work and in-house architecture expertise.

Who is it suitable for?

Companies with in-house developers or a strong partner, multiple channels and demanding speed requirements. For smaller teams, a suite with ready-made connectors is often the better choice.
