TCO / Total Cost of Ownership

In brief: Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) covers all costs of a PIM system over its lifetime, not just licensing or subscription fees. This includes implementation, data migration, integrations, operations, ongoing development and internal effort.

Components of TCO

  • Licensing or subscription fees
  • Implementation and configuration by the vendor or a partner
  • Data migration and cleansing
  • Integrations with ERP, e-commerce platforms, DAM and channels
  • Operations, hosting, support and updates
  • Internal staff costs for the project and ongoing maintenance

Why TCO matters

Systems with low licence fees can end up costing more than seemingly more expensive solutions due to high implementation and operating costs. Always compare vendors over a period of at least five years.
