ETIM

In brief: ETIM is an international classification model for technical products, primarily in electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and construction. For each product class, it defines which characteristics are described and which units and values are used.

How ETIM is structured

  • Product groups and classes: for example, the class “socket outlet”.
  • Characteristics for each class: for example, rated voltage, colour or degree of protection.
  • Values and units: predefined lists of values and units ensure comparable data.
  • Versions: the model is regularly expanded. Distributors often specify which version they require.

Why ETIM matters

Wholesalers in the electrical and building services sectors require product data in line with ETIM so that customers can filter and compare products by their characteristics in online shops and catalogues. Maintaining data in line with ETIM allows you to supply many distributors from a single dataset.

ETIM and PIM

A PIM system manages ETIM classes and characteristics alongside your own data model and maps your attributes to them. Data is usually exported via BMEcat.
