OpenDXP

OpenDXP is an open-source platform for PIM, DAM, headless CMS and commerce. It is a fork of version 11, the last fully free version of Pimcore, and will remain under the GPLv3 licence. The project was initiated by Swiss agency DACHCOM, and the platform officially launched in February 2026. It was prompted by Pimcore’s licence change with version 12: the new Pimcore Open Core License restricts free use by larger companies and operation as a SaaS offering.

What OpenDXP offers

• PIM and MDM: Data models can be created in the browser using drag and drop, with inheritance across products and variants.
• DAM: Image and document management, including automatic image formats for web output.
• Headless CMS and commerce: Built on the same codebase, with support for complex B2B pricing and customer-specific assortments.
• Technology: PHP and Symfony, search via Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, with the classic Pimcore backend retained.

Migrating from Pimcore 11

For companies currently using Pimcore 11, migration is relatively straightforward. The data structures are almost identical, with most of the work involving code changes to dependencies and namespaces. Existing extensions such as the Process Manager Bundle continue to work because OpenDXP retains the existing backend. On its website, the project lists DACHCOM, Bell Food Group, Migros and VAW among its partners or users.

Who OpenDXP is suited to

OpenDXP is a good fit for companies with an in-house development team or an experienced agency that want a free, self-hosted platform for PIM, DAM and commerce without licence fees. Companies expecting a vendor with a support contract and a commitment to a roadmap should secure operations and ongoing development through a partner.
