Stibo Systems

Stibo Systems profile

Stibo Systems is a master data management vendor headquartered in Aarhus, Denmark, with a German office in Hamburg. Its roots date back to 1976. The platform is known as STEP. Stibo Systems continues to offer STEP while also developing its current platform.

Ownership and recent developments

Stibo Systems is part of the Stibo Group, which is controlled by a Danish foundation. In October 2026, it was announced that the group was seeking a minority investor for Stibo Systems for the first time. The process is expected to run into 2027, with the foundation retaining control. For 2025/26, Stibo Systems reported revenue of DKK 1.31 billion. At the same time, Stibo is developing STEP exclusively as a SaaS offering; support for on-premises deployments ends on 31 December 2027. Stibo Systems as a multidomain MDM platform

Stibo manages not only product data but also customer, supplier and location data in a single platform. These domains can be linked, for example to show which supplier delivers which product to which location. For retailers and manufacturers operating across multiple channels, this provides the foundation for consistent data across online stores, physical stores and the supply chain. Customers include adidas, Marks & Spencer, Rossmann, MEC and Elektra.

Strengths and limitations

Stibo Systems is strong in core PIM capabilities: onboarding data from multiple sources, data quality management with complex rules, data models with multiple hierarchy levels, industry taxonomies and connections to data pools. This makes the platform well suited to large enterprises with demanding data requirements. Sales and support teams operate worldwide. Recent additions include an MCP server and AI agents for text, image analysis and translation. Limitations: the pricing model has multiple layers, including record types and concurrent users, and some AI features are charged separately. There are fewer ready-made connectors to retailers and marketplaces than specialised PXM vendors offer, and a dedicated AI assistant is still on the roadmap.

Who Stibo is suited to

Stibo Systems is one of the enterprise platforms on the market. Projects are correspondingly extensive and take longer than implementations of a standalone PIM. For large organisations with multiple data domains and international operations, this is justified. Mid-sized companies working primarily with product data can often find leaner solutions.
