Enrichment / Enhancing Product Information

In brief: Enrichment means enhancing product information: descriptions, attributes, classifications, images, translations and relationships turn basic data from source systems into sales-ready product data.

What enrichment involves

ERP systems and suppliers usually provide only basic data such as item numbers, names, prices and weights. Almost everything else needed for sales and marketing is missing. During enrichment, product management, marketing and editorial teams add:

  • Short and long descriptions, selling points and SEO copy,
  • technical attributes by category or standard,
  • classifications and categories for navigation and export,
  • images, videos and documents (media assets),
  • translations and country-specific information,
  • relationships such as accessories and spare parts.

How a PIM system organises enrichment

A PIM system uses workflows to assign tasks to the responsible people, shows completeness for each product and channel, and only approves products once all mandatory information is available. Bulk editing and inheritance save time.

Enrichment with AI

AI tools are increasingly taking on parts of the enrichment process: extracting attributes from data sheets, generating copy from attributes and suggesting translations. This only works with clean source data and requires human approval. Find out more in PIM Meets AI.
