Supplier Portal / Supplier Onboarding

In brief: A supplier portal enables suppliers to upload their product data and media directly into a retailer’s or manufacturer’s PIM system. Supplier onboarding is the structured process of bringing new suppliers and their data on board.

What a supplier portal does

  • Data uploads via forms, Excel templates, BMEcat or an interface
  • Automatic validation of required fields and formats during upload
  • Mapping of the supplier’s data structure to your own data model
  • Approval workflow before data is incorporated into the golden record

Why it matters

In retail in particular, most product data comes from suppliers. Data errors are best caught at the source. The earlier suppliers are required to check data quality themselves, the less rework your own team has to do.
