Requirements specification / Requirements catalogue

In brief: The requirements specification defines what a PIM system must deliver for the business. The requirements catalogue organises these requirements into a structured list, assigns priorities and provides a basis for comparing vendors consistently.

What to include

  • Project objectives and constraints
  • Business requirements for the data model, workflows, translation and channels
  • Technical requirements for interfaces, operations and security
  • Scale: products, attributes, languages, users
  • Requirements weighted by priority

Requirements specification and functional specification

The requirements specification describes what is needed from the client’s perspective; the functional specification describes how it will be delivered from the vendor’s perspective. Our PIM criteria checklist provides a useful template for your requirements catalogue.
