Interfaces / API / Connectors

In brief: Interfaces connect the PIM to other systems such as ERP, DAM, online stores and marketplaces. An API is a programmable interface, while a connector is a ready-made integration with a specific system, often supplied by the vendor.

Types of interfaces

  • File-based: Import and export via CSV, Excel, XML or BMEcat
  • API: REST or GraphQL for direct, often automated data exchange
  • Connectors: Ready-made integrations with systems such as Shopware, Shopify, SAP or Amazon
  • Middleware: Integration platforms that connect multiple systems

What to consider when selecting a system

Interfaces are often the biggest cost driver in a PIM implementation. Check early on which connectors are available for your systems, how comprehensive the API is and who will maintain the interfaces in the long term.
