Proof of Concept (PoC)

In brief: A proof of concept is a time-limited test in which a PIM system uses your own data and use cases to demonstrate whether it meets the key requirements. It usually takes place at the end of the selection process, before the decision to sign a contract.

How a PoC works

  • Select two to four critical use cases, such as the data model, data import or export to a channel
  • Provide a representative sample of your data
  • The vendor or partner implements the use cases, typically over a few weeks
  • Jointly evaluate the results against predefined criteria

When a PoC is worthwhile

When the investment is substantial, requirements are specific or two vendors are equally strong after their presentations. Clarify in advance who will cover the costs and how the results can be reused later.
