Mapping / Attribute Mapping

In brief: Mapping means matching your attributes, categories and values to the structures of another system or standard. It is needed whenever data is imported or syndicated to retailers, marketplaces and data pools.

Types of mapping

  • Attribute mapping: your attribute “Width (mm)” is matched to the retailer’s “width” field.
  • Value mapping: “anthracite” is translated into the standard value “grey”.
  • Category mapping: your categories are mapped to the recipients’ category trees.
  • Unit mapping: conversion, for example from millimetres to centimetres.

Mapping in PIM

Good PIM systems store mappings for each recipient and apply them automatically. This keeps your data model stable, even when retailers change their requirements. AI now makes it much faster to generate mapping suggestions.
