Validation Rules / Business Rules

In brief: Validation rules automatically check product data for accuracy and plausibility. Business rules go further by triggering actions, such as calculating values or assigning categories.

Examples of rules

  • The GTIN must have 13 digits and a valid check digit.
  • The weight must be between 0.01 and 500 kg.
  • A product in the “Luminaire” class must have an energy efficiency class specified.
  • Volume is calculated from length, width and height.

Benefits

Rules catch errors before they reach an online store, a catalogue or a retailer. They reduce the team’s workload and make quality measurable. It is important to define rules together with the relevant departments and review them regularly.
